HOW TO KNOW & DO THE WILL OF GOD...continued
What is the place of human counsellors?and which of the ways previously discussed is the best way to be guided?
Human counsellors are not in any way to solely guide the new testament believer.
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come"-John 16:13 (KJV)
This is expressly declared-The Holy Spirit will (surely) guide us into all truth in every decision of life.Does that mean I should not seek the counsel of my spitritual leader(bishop,pastor etc) or disdain their advice?
"Where no counsel is , the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety"- Proverbs. 11:14 KJV
Counsellors here in the root word(ya'ats in the Hebrews) is interpreted advise.Every God-sent advice given should not and must not contradict what you have heard from the Lord.
This scripture given in the old testament was written in the dispensation where The Holy Ghost had not begun indwelling individuals.It was written when priests and prophets were the major mediums through which God spake to his people yet God still provided a check for his people, He said.
In the "multitude"-(abundance,many) advice there is safety-seeking counsel of God's oracles irregardless of their number should not contract themselves.If truly its of God they will all speak in the same direction for the spirit of God and is one(Ephesians 4:4)
In 1st Kings 22,an account of seeking counsel of prophets is recorded.King Ahab of Israel asked Jehoshaphat the king of Judahto go to war with him against Ramoth-Gilead but Jehoshaphat wanted God's counsel.The King of Israel gathered the prophets and they all said.
"Go up;for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king".Jehoshapahat felt uneasy still and requested for just one more"a prophet of the Lord besides those" Micaiah was sought and prophecied otherwise.His counsel was rejected, they went to war and Ahab the king of Israel died. In using Human counsellors in the old testament all genuine prophets will speak the same thing and if a contrary prophecy,its a caution! for the spirit of God is One.
In the new Testament dispensation,all the ways that have been listed in the past few weeks are to be in sync with one another ( not one way will be contrary to another) when God guides us through -His word,His spirit,Inner peace,Counsel of Spiritual leaders or more matured christians) all will be pointing in the same direction. These in the new testament are your " Multitude of counsel"(His Word,His Spirit,inner peace,Wise and Godly Human Counsellors).
Many of us New Testament believers would rather take decisions based on what the pastor or priest has said,this ought not to be so;So many ministers have taken the place of the spirit of God-God does not want this so!How do I know?that's why the veil in the temple tore during the Crucifixion( Mark 15:38) from top to bottom,to signify access to the holiest of all, opened forever to everyone who believes.You can access God,his plan and will for you through the leading of the. Holy Spirit.
Let me strongly advice.If what your spirit leader says contracts the word of God and what The Holy Spirit says to you and inside you, you feel troubled,please do not take that counsel.
Human Counsellors are meant to confirm or clarify the word of God and What Hs spirit is saying to you.We 21st century christians ought to be like the Berean Brethren, who went home after each meeting to search the Scriptures if the things spoken to them were true.(Acts 17:10-11)
The Ups and Downs of many believers today is due to wrong decisions taken without consulting the true guide of all times( The blessed Holy Spirit).Many are too busy to make out time for a relationship with God and His Spirit.Hearing the voice of The Holy Spirit takes practise,relationship and fellowship.
Don't wait till you need to take a decision, start a relationship with God and His Spirit now.Hearing the voice of The Spirit takes practice, relationship and fellowship.
Share yout plans with the Holy spirit as often as possible each day,talk to him about everything and anything.
Follow and Obey the promptings in your spirit.
If you miss it it, Keep on practising,keep on fellowshipping.
Do you ask " How do I start a relationship with God and His Spirit ?"
Invite Jesus into your life.
Accept him as your Lord and Saviour
Denounce every evil and sinful way.
Ask the Holy Spirit to be your friend and help you to know God more.
